In spite of the fact that it sounds engaging on a superficial level, that announcement is frail. Most importantly, that sentence could be depicting practically any business in any industry. Itââ¬â¢s a cushy sweeping statement that could be portraying an auto mechanics shop or a store. Also, ââ¬Å"superior client serviceâ⬠and ââ¬Å"outstanding productsâ⬠are unconfirmed cases. Shoppers are shelled by explanations like these constantly and tune them out. Rather than cushioning your duplicate with cushy expressions, utilize strong subtleties to sell your items. Take another cut at that first sentence: ââ¬Å"Recognized for remarkable client assistance by the American Pet Supply Organization, Acme Pet Supply stocks everything pet proprietors need â⬠from canary food to bite toys.â⬠No more lighten. is Lady Macbeth a modern female role model Essay Example
is Lady Macbeth a cutting edge female good example? Paper Woman Macbeth might be viewed as an advanced female good example as her character complies with the irregular perspectives of a run of the mill Elizabethan lady. In any case she additionally presents perspectives of normal conduct acknowledged of lady during the period. Right off the bat, talking about how Lady Macbeth is certainly not a cutting edge female good example. It tends to be recognized that Lady Macbeth never truly has genuine intensity of her own. Despite the fact that it is obvious that she makes a few choices all alone and furthermore creates some individual thoughts; these are impacted by different characters, for xample, the possibility of Macbeth turning out to be King, raises her to convince him of slaughtering Duncan. What would you be able to and I perform upon thunguarded Duncan? To some degree convinces Macbeth to help out the arrangement through Lady Macbeths utilization of control, likewise she additionally remembers herself for the arrangement, accordingly she doesn't cause Macbeth to feel detached in the arrangement. Therefore, Lady Macbeth doesn't settle on any total choices exclusively, other than her own self destruction; which could be contended was the impact of Macbeth. This is on the grounds that Lady Macbeth appears to lose control of her predominant persona from the repercussions of Banquds demise, which in the long run makes er end her own life through her crazy state. In this way it represents Lady Macbeths capacity to lose control, which would not be a positive attribute of a cutting edge female. Unsex me here and fill me from the crown to the toe topfull Not just does this statement indicate Lady Macbeths wanting want for government, nd advances her aspiration for power. Fill me from the crown may pass on her capacity to settle on choices without Macbeths assent and conversation. This all the more not well carried on and egotistical side of Lady Macbeth puts light onto how she has no affections for other people, as slaughtering Duncan will lead her better half to turning out to be sovereign; which will basically make her Queen. Then again, Lady Macbeths longing for power shows her disposing of anything which comes in the middle of her and control. Have culled my areola from his boneless gums and ran the minds out demonstrates that she would sick her own youngster with the end goal for Macbeth to become King. Therefore, through some idea it might be viewed as that if Macbeth somehow managed to have kicked the bucket during his rule, Lady Macbeth would turn into the female ruler because of having no beneficiary. Relevantly this connects to Queen Elizabeth, or the virgin sovereign as her modesty is the thing that caused her to be considered as Gloriana, accordingly Lady Macbeth might need to seek to be ruler, like Elizabeth as she just became Queen as her sister, Mary didn't have a beneficiary to the position of authority. is Lady Macbeth a cutting edge female good example? A Bad Reputation Of Tom Buchanan - Free Essay Example
So we beat on, boats against the current, borne back ceaselessly into the past. It is the 1920s, or the roaring 20s. At that time, a lot of people were thriving and the economy was booming, the stock market was going up, and it was a time of prosperity. There were a lot of wealthy men at that time, and they can be very unpredictable. They can be a caring gentleman, or abusive and controlling to women. There were a lot of parties hosted by wealthy people, with jazzy music. The Great Gatsby is taken place during that decade. Most of these characters in the Great Gatsby are unique and unpredictable at the same time. Tom Buchanan is one of those wealthy people. Both Tom and Gatsby are fighting over Daisy. Although Tom and Gatsby are fighting over Daisy, Tom has a bad reputation and he is hated more.He has a bad reputation for cheating on his wife and he doesnt want his wife to be with Gatsby. There are times where Tom was cheating on his wife and where he is abusive to his wife. One reason is that he has an affair with his mistress, Myrtle. He also has an affair with her. I first met Tom Buchanans mistress. The fact that he had one was insisted upon wherever he was known. His acquaintances resented the fact that he turned up in popular restaurants with her and, leaving her at a table, sauntered about, chatting with whomsoever he knew (Fitzgerald 24). During the lunch, Tom then starts arguing to Gatsby about Daisy. She never loved you, do you hear? She only married you because I was poor and she was tired of waiting for me. It was a terrible mistake, but in her heart, she never loved anyone except me (Fitzgerald 130). In the first place, Daisy is already taken by Tom Buchanan. Essay On Growing Membership - 1338 Words
Perhaps FOEââ¬â¢s relaxed policies towards membership are an effort to retain younger membership such as my millennial self. Another foreboding revelation Iââ¬â¢ve discovered is the rapidly approaching closure of the baby boomer generation. Coincidently, most of the Eagles members Iââ¬â¢ve encountered are baby boomers. Retirements brought a price of losing valuable experience and insight among businesses of boomers previously (Delong, 2004). I believe the same concept holds true to the Eagles as they are threatened to lose the backbone of their membership. Spain And The United States - 1095 Words
Spain and the United States began relations in the earliest days of North Americaââ¬â¢s colonization. Spainââ¬â¢s settlements in Florida, followed by other colonies in Louisiana, Texas, and the Southwest and California, meant that early American colonists would come into contact and later into conflict with the Spanish. In the early days of the American Revolutionary War, Spain assisted the Americans in their struggle for independence. Many years later, relations between Spain and the U.S. deteriorated and war broke out; in recent decades, however, the countries began repairing economic relations once again. Diplomatic relations between Spain and the United States started in 1783. Spain severed ties in 1898 when the Spanish-American War began; U.S.-Spanish relations were re-established in 1899 (ââ¬Å"U.S. Relations With Spainâ⬠, State.gov). Since then, relations between the two nations have slowly but steadily continued to improve in economic terms. When Spain helped the Americans in the Revolutionary War era, it helped Spain economically as well as assisting the new United States. Spain helped itself by aligning its economic interests with the American colonists, and using that partnership to gain an advantage over the French and the British interests. Just over a century later, the United States went to war against Spain and forced the Spanish to give up their remaining colonies. The Definition of Heteronormativity
The Definition of Heteronormativity In its broadest sense, heteronormativity implies that there is a hard and fast line between genders. Men are men, and women are women. Its all black and white, allowing for no gray areas in between.à This leads to the conclusion that heterosexuality is, therefore, the norm, but more importantly, that it is theà onlyà norm. Its not just one path an individual might take, but the acceptable one.à Heterosexuality vs. Heteronormativity Heteronormativity creates a cultural bias in favor of opposite-sex relationships of a sexual nature, and against same-sex relationships of a sexual nature. Because the former is viewed as normal and the latter are not, lesbian and gay relationships are subject to a heteronormative bias. Heteronormativity in Advertising and Entertainment Examples of heteronormativity might include the under-representation of same-sex couples in advertising and entertainment media, although this is becoming increasingly rare. More and more television shows, includingà ABCs long-runningà Greys Anatomy,à feature homosexual couples. Many national brands have tapped into their homosexual consumer base in their commercials, including DirecTV in its pitch for its Sunday Ticket, Taco Bell, Coca Cola, Starbucks, and Chevrolet.à Heteronormativity and the Lawà Laws that actively discriminate against same-sex relationships, such as laws banning same-sex marriage, are prime examples of heteronormativity, but a change is underway in this sphere as well. The U.S. Supreme Court declared same-sex marriage legal in all 50 states in its landmark Obergefell v. Hodges decision in June 2015. It wasnt a landslide voteà - the decision was a narrow 5-4à - but it established all the same that states may not prevent same-sex couples from marrying. Justice Anthony Kennedy said, They ask for equal dignity in the eyes of the law. The Constitution gives them that right. Some states, most notably Texas, resisted, but the ruling and the law were nonetheless established and these states were held accountable for their decisions and heteronormative legislation.à Obergefell v. Hodgesà established a precedent and a decided trend toward state approval with same-sex marriage, if not a landslide of change.à Heteronormativity and Religious Biasà Religious bias against same-sex couples is another example of heteronormativity, but a trend prevails here, too. Although the Religious Right has taken a firm stand against homosexuality, the Pew Research Centerà found that the issue is not that clear cut. The Center conducted a study in December 2015, just six months after theà Obergefell v. Hodgesà decision and found that eight major religions actually sanctioned same-sex marriage, while 10 prohibited it. If but one faith swung to the other side, the numbers would have been evenly balanced. Islam, Baptists, Roman Catholics, and Methodists fell on the heteronormative side of the equation, while the Episcopal, Evangelical Lutheran, and Presbyterian churches said they supported gay marriage. Two faithsà - Hinduism and Buddhismà - dont take a firm stance either way.à The Fight Against Heteronormativityà Like racism, sexism, and heterosexism, heteronormativity is a bias that can be best be eliminated culturally, not legislatively. However, it can be argued that the 2015 Supreme Court decision went a very long way toward taking a stand against it. From a civil liberties perspective, the government should not participate in heteronormativity by enacting heteronormative lawsà - but in recent years, it has not. The opposite has occurred, bringing hope for a brighter future.

Food Safety - Chemical, Microbiology, etc Term Paper
Food Safety - Chemical, Microbiology, etc - Term Paper Example In the wake of the salmonella outbreak, many companies withdrew their peanut butter products from the market. Nearly seventy companies recalled 125 peanut butter products. A large number of adults and children had fallen ill, after consuming the King Nut brand peanut butter. Tests conducted by the CDC and other state health institutions have confirmed traces of salmonella in the peanut butter, manufactured by the King Nut company. This brand is supplied in large containers to organizations, such as nursing homes, schools, and hospitals. However, consumption of peanut butter products of other companies that were sold to customers in retail outlets or grocery stores did not contain salmonella. The contaminated peanut butter was not sold directly to the consumers. It was supplied to food service providers in the States of Ohio, Michigan, North Dakota, Minnesota, Arizona, Idaho, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, and Florida. It was then redistributed to retail sellers. According to the Minnesota Department of Health, traces of salmonella bacteria were found in a container of King Nut brand peanut butter. This came to light on account of preliminary laboratory tests conducted on samples of peanut butter. The E. coli outbreak of 1993 had claimed the lives of three children in Western Washington. In January and February of that year, these children had consumed meat contaminated with the E. coli bacteria. This outbreak also caused 450 people to fall ill; in addition, a few others were rendered ill after being exposed to people who had been infected with these bacteria. Finally, the cause of this infection was traced to the undercooked meat served in the Jack in the Box Restaurants. Acylamide is a carcinogen and neurotoxin that is formed in a number of food products.

ECOTOURISM Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2000 words
ECOTOURISM - Essay Example Thus a new concept of Ecotourism emerged. Ecotourism is focused primarily on exploring the nature and learning from it. Most countries encourage this because it attracts a large number of tourists to the land, which helps improve the economy. It typically occurs in areas that are naturally well-endowed, and it is expected to contribute to the conservation and preservation of such areas. Though all the promotional activities in tourism, especially that of ecotourism, are done in the guise of love for the environment and efforts to protect it, the underlying motive is profit making. Visiting exotic cultures and pristine sceneries of the host land provide the tourists a rare and unique experience, and they readily spend huge sums of money to be able to share it. The local tour operators and government seize this potential and promote the tourist activities. Most of the time the result is that the environment that they proclaim to protect is often exposed to deterioration. Though cultura l exchange is upheld as one of the benefits of ecotourism, the reality is that culture is being sold as brands. The safaris into an African jungle or a visit to the backwaters of Kerala by herds of tourists are not helping the environment improve; instead these only cause trouble to the natural resources of the area. But the stakeholders like tour operators, agents, local administration and government etc are deriving monetary benefits which motivate them to promote such activities instead of discouraging it and saving the environment from harm. Thus one can easily see that profit making is the main objective of all the propaganda about ecotourism. Ecotourism has become a much sought after means for the intensified economic growth and is well illustrated in its rapid expansion worldwide over the past two decades. The fact that more and more nations are waking up to the economic potentialities of ecotourism that has turned almost all pristine places across the world as the

The development of new reproductive technologies Essay Example for Free
The development of new reproductive technologies Essay Explain some of the religious and moral issues relevant to the development of new reproductive technologies. [35] The development of new reproductive technologies have revolutionised the way society views infertility. However, many object to methods such as IVF, cloning, ICSI and PGD for moral and religious reasons. In examining these issues, a good place to start is IVF. IVF ââ¬â in vitro fertilisation ââ¬â is one of the most commonly used reproductive technologies. This method bypasses the need for intercourse to conceive; embryos are instead created in a lab and implanted into a mother. It can either use gametes from two parents, or in the case of a homosexual couple some of the material will be donated. From a human-rights perspective everyone has the right to a family life, which some interpret to mean a right to IVF. However, even from a purely secular point of view there are moral problems with IVF. For example, the new ICSI method bypasses many of the bodys natural defences for weeding out unfit sperm and therefore the child is at a higher risk of genetic abnormalities. Additionally, some feminists view reproductive technology with suspicion. Feminists refer to a `pro-natalist ideology prevalent in Western society, whereby women are encouraged to believe that their fulfilment and happiness depends upon their being able to bear children. They fear women may be coerced into IVF. The main issue that Christians would have with IVF is that many embryos are created and then destroyed. More embryos are produced in order to increase the chances of successful implantation, but in the UK you cannot use more than two embryos per IVF cycle. This creates spare embryos that are discarded, experimented upon or frozen for later use. The majority of Christians believe that life and personhood are intertwined, and both begin at conception. Christians believe in the sanctity of life, meaning that all human life is created in Godââ¬â¢s image and has intrinsic worth. The most important verse they turn to is part of the Decalogue: ââ¬Å"do not kill.â⬠Moreover, Psalm 139 says, ââ¬Å"you knit me together in my motherââ¬â¢s womb.â⬠Therefore the discarding of spare embryos is murder of an innocent life. As with any issue, denominational opinions differ. The Roman Catholic Church defends traditional family structures and view IVF as unnatural. They published a document in 1987called Respect for Human Life in its Origin and the Dignity of Procreation. This emphasised the principles concerning the sanctity of life laid down much earlier in the Papal Encyclical, Humanae Vitae of 1968. In summary it claimed that children were a gift from God and not a commodity, and the proper place for children is within marriage. The church has expressed fears that IVF trivialises intercourse. Protestant churches tend to take a more lenient view. For example, the Free Presbyterian Church accepts IVF provided that the couple are married, spare embryos are not created and no donors are used. Both the Methodist Church and the Church of England are quite positive about all forms of IVF and even permit research on spare embryos up to 14 days old because it can be of great help to doctors researching genetic diseases, although embryos should not be created solely for this purpose. Other more drastic forms of reproductive technology pose a bigger problem for the churches. The successful cloning of Dolly the Sheep opened up a debate on the potential of human cloning and saviour siblings. Reproductive cloning would devalue individuality and result in negative psychological effects in the cloned person. Cloned animals tend to have a shorter lifespan and there is a genuine fear that a sub-class of humans could be produced in order for their organs to be harvested. This commodification of life sounds like science fiction, but according to Paul Ramsey it is a real threat. Cloning also removes the need for a male. In the case of Dolly, she had three ââ¬Ëmothersââ¬â¢: one provided the egg, another the DNA and a third carried the cloned embryo to term. The embryo was given an electric shock in order to begin the division process. For Christians this disrupts Godââ¬â¢s design for reproduction and parenthood. The only form of cloning that some churches would permit is therapeutic cloning, when a personââ¬â¢s stem cells can be used to produce organs that are an exact match. Mary Seller, a member of the Church of Englands Board of Social Responsibility, states, Cloning, like all science, must be used responsibly. Cloning humans is not desirable.â⬠Furthermore, another key form of reproductive technology is PGD pre-implantation genetic diagnosis. This process can eliminate genetic diseases by selection (negative therapy) and can also alter the genes to ââ¬Ëimproveââ¬â¢ an embryo (positive therapy). It can be used to prevent suffering for both the child and parents. Moral objects are raised because, just like IVF, negative therapy involves fertilising several embryos with the intent of destroying those with the disease. This is dehumanising to disabled people, because it suggests that society would be better off without them. Positive therapy takes it to another level, and could result in a class of humans that are genetically modified for maximum health, intelligence and appearance. This destroys individualism and Christians refer to it as, ââ¬Å"playing God.â⬠According to the Free Presbyterian Church, ââ¬Å"remember that each time cells are harvested for the treatment of someone who is sick, a new and sacred lif e is callously ended.â⬠Moving on, reproductive technology can be evaluated according to traditional ethical principles. Starting with Utilitarianism, Patrick Steptoe is quoted as stating that It is a fact that there is a biological desire to reproduce.â⬠If this is the case, then the maximum amount of happiness for the greatest amount of people will be achieved if they are able to reproduce, even if they need IVF or other interventions. Since successful IVF treatment will bring an enormous amount of happiness utilitarians are in agreement with such treatments. In the case of an infertile couple the utilitarian will look at the options available and strive towards to goal of conception. Likewise, if PGD and cloning can help alleviate human suffering it will be supported by utilitarians. Situation ethics bases the morality of an action on the circumstances that surround it. The only underlying principle is that we should always choose the most loving course of action, and there is no absolute morality. Whether an infertile couple should have access to IVF is based entirely on their individual situation. Natural law, on the other hand, is not so accepting. It is similar to the view the Roman Catholic Church takes. IVF and other technologies are unnatural and therefore immoral. Some criticise this theory because they claim that it is no more unnatural then the countless other forms of human intervention such as when we have an operation. Ultimately, reproductive technology causes us to rethink our views on family, marriage, sex and what makes a mother. Regardless of their views, Christians should be compassionate towards those suffering from the effects of infertility. You cannot understand their situation unless you have experienced it personally.

The Rights Issues of Digital Preservation in the Digital Era :: Preservation Access Library Science
The Rights Issues of Digital Preservation in the Digital Era Not long ago, Anthony Grafton, the distinguished Princeton historian, published a history of the footnote. An intellectual tool that is ââ¬Å"the humanistââ¬â¢s rough equivalent of the scientistââ¬â¢s report on data,â⬠the footnote offers ââ¬Å"the empirical support for stories told and arguments presented.â⬠No doubt we all remember our own experiences of awe and wonder when we learned how to interpret a footnote and so began to understand the mechanics of scholarly reference. However, according to Grafton, ââ¬Å"no one has described the way that footnotes educate better than Harry Belafonte, who recently told the story of his early reading of W. E. B. DuBois.â⬠As a young West Indian sailor, Belafonte learned to read critically when he figured out how the footnote opened a world of learning. ââ¬Å"I discovered,â⬠Belafonte said, ââ¬Å"that at the end of some sentences there was a number and if you looked at the foot of the page the reference was to what it was all aboutââ¬âwhat source DuBois gleaned his information from.â⬠However, Belafonte did not find the task of learning from references to be easy at first and was stymied by the methods that DuBois used to cite his references. Trying to track them down, he says that he went to a library in Chicago with a long list of books. ââ¬Å"The librarian said, ââ¬Ëthatââ¬â¢s too many, young man. Youââ¬â¢re going to have to cut it down.ââ¬â¢ I said, ââ¬ËI can make it very easy. Just give me everything you got by Ibid.ââ¬â¢ She said, ââ¬ËThereââ¬â¢s no such writer.ââ¬â¢ I called her a racist. I said, ââ¬ËAre you trying to keep me in darkness?ââ¬â ¢ And I walked out of there angry.â⬠. Of course, footnotes are not the only or, in a variety of research and educational contexts, even the best method of reference. Moreover, as the Belafonte story indicates, there can be many obstacles in tracing down a reference path. However, as Grafton concludes in his study, the footnote is a critical part of the scholarly apparatus because it is such a clear and efficient mechanism to link one piece of scholarship with what its author has identified as the key reference points for the work. It serves as a guarantee, Grafton says, ââ¬Å"that statements about the past derive from identifiable sources. And that is the only ground we have to trust [those statements]â⬠(Grafton 1997: vii, 233-235).

Callicles Gorgias
Rebecca L. Hunt Stickiest Point #1 1. THE CLAIM: ââ¬Å"The man whoââ¬â¢ll live correctly ought to allow his own appetites to get as large as possible and not restrain them. â⬠ââ¬âCallicles, Gorgias 491e-492a. 2. CALLICLESââ¬â¢ ARGUMENT: Callicles claims that one should fill his appetite as much as possible. Socratesââ¬â¢ view on a happy life requires self mastery which means that your appetites and emotions are controlled and you mind manifests order. Also, Socratesââ¬â¢ ideal happy person would not do what is morally wrong.Callicles argues that if you live a life like Socrates wants, you are living like a corpse or a stone. Callicles believes that ââ¬Å"living pleasantly consists in this: having as much as possible flow inâ⬠(494b). To truly be happy, one needs to be constantly filling his appetite to the maximum capacity. This is not possible for many. The people who cannot fulfill their appetites are apparently embarrassed and ââ¬Å"their own lack of courage leads them to praise self-control and justiceâ⬠(492b).According to Callicles, the rules created by the weak ââ¬Å"enslaveâ⬠the more naturally gifted men. For the ones born into power, Callicles believes that they should defiantly feel shameful that they let the talk of the people and the laws that rule them stop him from filling his appetite. 3. CRITICISM: Callicles is wrong to think that one should fill his appetite constantly and to the fullest. This may seem like a pleasant life but it is defiantly not a fulfilling one.You need more goals and ambitions that are not just centered on what you want. . One could argue that everybody does not have appetites that are bad and selfish, but Callicles is defiantly referring to the self-indulgent ones. Callicles theory is similar to Darwinââ¬â¢s ââ¬Å"survival of the fittestâ⬠. Both believe that the strongest creatures will rule and take over the weaker ones Callicles is also wrong in saying that the strong sho uld do whatever they feel and the weak need to quit holding them back with rules. He believes that the ââ¬Å"weakâ⬠create these rules because they are jealous and embarrassed at their own incompetence. It is not that the weak are jealous; they just want order in their cities. If the strong had the ability to do whatever they feel then many people would suffer. Why would a city want a majority of its citizens feel inferior to just a handful of, what I would call, bullies? This includes people born into power. Just because they are rulers does not give them the right to not have any kind of ethics or morals. They should actually do the opposite of what Callicles says and set an example for their people and lead good, self-disciplined lives. Smart people should have more of a right to rule the people, but only if they are trying to work for the greater good. They should not have ultimate power but I would rather a room full of smart, morally good men rule a city then selfish men c onstantly trying to always fulfill their own appetites.

It is costly to children, primarily from the standpoint of having half the support that a child deserves. Married gay couples can provide twice the support that a single parent can provide, and this is always a good thing. 3. CONCLUSION (5) (written out): Clearly, our world is evolving around us. Everything is changing, from our work life to our personal life. I find it quite sad that some issues, such as gay adoption, still seem to be stuck in the 1950ââ¬â¢s. The ââ¬Ëperfect familyââ¬â¢ is no longer perfect. Homosexuality is not a disease, nor is it something that someone can become simply because of their surroundings. And in the end, some homosexual couples can provide better homes than many heterosexual people can. Why put children through poor conditions, bounce them around in foster homes, or leave them with ill-suited families, simply because SOME people say itââ¬â¢s wrong? The Patterns Of Majority And Minority Interaction
The patterns of majority and minority interaction eventually play into prejudice and bigotry themes. Prejudice views differ from bigotry. In some form, a comparison can be drawn between ethnocentric ideas and prejudice ideas. When someone is ethnocentric, they believe their own values and customs to be superior to other cultures. From these ethnocentric ideas, which have been displayed throughout history, prejudice ideas occur. Prejudice ideas occur when a person makes a pre-judgment or assumption in regards to another ethnicity. Therefore, when one makes a pre-judgment they assume that they are unlike the group that they are judging. Bigotry on the other hand plays into the idea of discrimination in the sense that people are not approving of a particular minorities lifestyle or cultural values. Lecture number five does a nice job explaining how all three of these concepts work, ââ¬Å"People tend to justify discrimination by rationalizing it on the ground that those whom they discri minate against are less worthy of respect or fair treatment than people like themselvesâ⬠(Class notes, Lecture 5). An example of modern prejudice ideas or bigotry can be seen within how western countries discuss people of Islamic faith. One common stereotype that Iââ¬â¢ve personally observed is that all Muslim people are ââ¬Å"terroristsâ⬠. This unfortunate assumption has led to serious accounts of discrimination. Different Periods Of Music Have Different Characteristics
Different periods of music have different characteristics. For impressionist era, it was between romantic period and the 20th century. There were some similarities within these two periods, like the contrasts of dynamics and pitch in the former period, while the melody is fragmented in the latter period. One of the famous composers, Claude Debussy, liked to compose music through harmony and exotic scale. An example of his pieces was Danse sacree et profane composed in 1904. It consists of two parts with the meaning of sacred and profane, and most characteristics of the 20th century music. The two parts of Danse sacree et profane are not fully distinct but give me different feelings. What I first heard was the narrow use of instruments that is performed by a string orchestra, consisting of two violins, cello, viola, and double bass. These emphasize the solo Harp used in this piece and outline its characteristics. The piece is well-organized as the Harp plays the main melody of this music, while the strings are used for accompaniment. The orchestration moves between strings and the harp, and plays open octaves that are in unison with melody in a few moments. Overall, the melodies move slightly with simple intervals and straightforward rhythmic patterns. Whole-tone scales are used throughout two parts, which is one of the most common practices by Debussy. Moreover, this piece is in the binary form due to the division of two parts. Revenue Management Increased Profits
Question: Discuss about the Revenue Management for Increased Profits. Answer: Introduction Revenue management is critical for achievement of the financial goals for every organization regardless its industry, nature of business, or size of its operations. There are two primary elements in the revenue management such as demand and price. The management of these two primary elements is crucial to ensure proper revenue management aligned with the organizational goals and strategies (Huefner, 2011). Thus, the revenue management could be defined as a disciplined approach to analyze and predict the consumer demand and set the prices to ensure attainment of the optimal revenues. In this context, a report has been prepared here that deals with various crucial aspects of the revenue management in the hospitality sector. This report covers discussion on the technical terms used in revenue management in the hospitality sector such as occupancy, ADR, and RevPAR. Further, the report also covers tactics to analyze hotels performance along with analysis of the competitors. The analysis of competitors is crucial to gauge own weakness and implanting alternative solutions to overcome such noticed weaknesses (Huefner, 2011). In addition to this, the discussion has also been put across the yield management strategies to be adopted by the managers of a hotel. Definition of Occupancy, ADR, RevPAR Understanding of the technical terms such as occupancy, ADR, RevPAR is important in revenues management. In the hospitality sector, occupancy rate refers to the unit demand. It is calculated by dividing the occupied rooms of a hotel by total number of rooms available for rental (Hayes, Ninemeier, Miller, 2011). The occupancy rate is used in computing the demand, which is a necessary element of revenue computation. Another important element of revenue computation in the hospitality sector is the average daily rate (ADR). The average daily rate represents the rental revenues per occupied rental unit, for example room. The RevPAR is referred as revenue per available room, which is computed by multiplying the ADR by occupancy rate of the hotel. In the hospitality sector, the RevPAR is used to measure the performance of hotel and its management over a given period of time (Hayes, Ninemeier, Miller, 2011). Analysis of the Hotels Performance against Its Competitors The first thing that could be observed about the hotel is the high occupancy rate as shown in the Smith Travel Research (STR) report. The report shows that occupancy rate of the hotel is higher than its competitor in all week day except Saturday. It has been observed that the occupancy rate of the hotel on Saturday was 94.70%, against which the competitor achieved an occupancy rate of 94.80%, which is marginally higher (Appendix). The high occupancy rate clearly indicates that the hotel is in demand. Further, the trend in respect of occupancy of the hotel also depicts increase by 39.10% in the current week as compared to only 6.90% increase in the case of the competitor (appendix). The next thing observed in respect of the hotel was the low average daily rates (ADR). It was observed that the hotel maintained ADR of 40.79 in the current week as against the ADR of 69.39 of its competitor. It may be that the hotel is following strategy to maintain low ADR to attract more customers. The companies adopt changes in the prices to infuse demand, but the change in the price should not result in reduction in the overall revenues. The third observation in respect of RevPAR indicates that the same has happened to the hotel in the current week. The hotel reduced ADR so low that its RevPAR went lower than that of its competitor. For the current week, RevPAR of the hotel was 36.43 as against 45.32 of its competitor (Appendix). Thus, despite maintaining high occupancy, hotels RevPAR went down, which indicates that the reduction in the ADR was not sustainable. Thus, based on RevPAR, it could be articulated that the performance of the hotel has been down as compared to its competitor. However, the hotel has built up a solid customer base, which is depicted in the high occupancy rate; thus, in the future, sustained increase in ADR could be made to gain from the situation (Ivanov, 2014). Ways to Analyze the Competitors In the current business scenario of throat cut competition, it has been become essential for the companies to keep eyes on the competitors and analyze their strengths, weaknesses, and strategies. For this purpose, SWOT (strength, weakness, opportunity, and threat) analysis of the competitor can be carried out. SWOT analysis focuses on the analysis of four core elements such as strengths and weaknesses of the business and opportunities and threats emanating from the environment (Varghese, 2012). The results of the SWOT analysis disclose the core competencies of the competitor and the weak areas, which can be exploited by others. Though SWOT analysis covers all the crucial areas of business such as marketing, finance, and administration, but it emphasizes much on marketing (Varghese, 2012). However, it should be noted that analysis of the marketing strategies and competencies of the competitors is not the only aspect that needs to be looked into in a competitor analysis. There are crucial areas such as finance, which should be analyzed in a competitor analysis. For this purpose, the financial statements of the competitor for preceding years say for 5 or 10 years could be referred. The analysis of the financial statement reveals the financial performance and position of the company, which is necessary to understand the standing of the competitor in the market place (Varghese, 2012). Yield Management Strategies The yield management strategies are applied for the purpose of effectively managing the revenues by adjusting the prices of goods or services. These strategies are effective in managing revenues when the resources are limit, for example, rooms in case of hotels, airlines in case of an airline company. The primary purpose of yield management strategy is to reduce the wastage and maximize the output within the constraint of the resources (Ingold, Yeoman, Beattie, 2000). There are various strategies that can be applied in the field of yield management; among them major five are listed as below: Adjusting prices of the goods and services: Adjusting the prices of the goods and services is the biggest tool in the hands of the management. The price affects demand, therefore, the management uses price as the tool to optimize the demand (Rouse, 2011). Controlling inventory in a better way: Controlling of inventory sometimes becomes pertinent, for example, in case of perishable goods. The perishable goods purchased in high quantities in the anticipation of high demand could causes heavy losses. Period wise analysis of demand: In order to utilize the resources to the optimal level, the industries such as hospitality and airlines conduct period wise analysis of demand. Based on this analysis, the periods are segregated as peak period and lean period (Rouse, 2011). Market or product wise analysis of demand: The analysis of demand based on the market or product is also helpful in putting the limited resources to their optimal use. Bringing lucrative incentive policies: This strategy is used to push the demand upside. As per this strategy, the firms in the industry such as hospitality bring in incentive policies for the staff so that the load of peak season could be sustained without many problems (Rouse, 2011). In the case being analyzed in this report, it could be observed that the demand is at excellent level as indicated by high occupancy rate, but the pricing needs modifications. Therefore, the management of the hotel should follow the strategy of adjusting the average daily rates. At present, the average daily rates of the hotel are so low that RevPAR is slopping downward despite registering growth in occupancy. Thus, with the motive to increase RevPAR, the management of the hotel should revise ADR to upside. Further, in order to sustain the hike in ADR, the management may consider delivering some additional value added services to the customers (Rouse, 2011). Communication with the Stakeholders In order to ensure successful implementation of the strategies and plans it is necessary to communicate them to the stakeholders in an effective manner. For this purpose, firstly it is crucial to identify the stakeholders to be communicated in respect of a particular strategy or plan correctly. For instance, in the current case, if the revenue manager plans to alter the prices for the room rent, the key stakeholders to be communicated will be top management, lower level management, and the customers (Bourne, 2015). The communication within the management that top management and lower level of management is the part if internal processes while the communication with the customers can be achieved through advertisement in a better way (Bourne, 2015). The revenue manager will have to first get the approval of the top management before considering implementation of the strategy. Thus, for this purpose, it is advisable that the revenue manager arranges a pre-informed meeting with the top management. The revenue manager should disclose the facts and figures along with analysis of the estimated benefits to the organization from the implementation of the strategy (Bourne, 2015). After getting approval from the top management, the revenue manager will have to communicate the implementation plan to the lower level management. This communication can be made through a meeting or sending written communication personally to the lower level managers. In this communication, the lower level staff should be made aware of the changes to be carried out through the strategy implementation and their duties and accountability toward the same (Bourne, 2015). Further, the third group of stakeholders that needs to be communicated about the changes in the prices of goods and services under the new strategy is the customers. In order to communicate, the customers, the advertisement and marketing channels to be used by the revenues manager (Bourne, 2015). Implement Revenue or Yield Management Strategies The two prominent areas where revenue or yield management strategies could be implemented are market segmentation and provisioning of bundled services. The market segmentation implies drawing out strategy to enter in the new segment of the market. In the case of a hotel, the new market segment could be providing space for corporate meetings to the companies (Marketing4restaurants, 2012). Thus, a hotel which primarily provides accommodation to the tourists could enter into new service area that is to provide services for corporate meetings to the companies. Further, the other area for implementation of yield management strategies is provisioning of bundled services. Following the policy of provisioning of bundled services, the hotel can offer multiple services in a single package. For example, the hotel providing only accommodation services could club in other services such as food serving, guide services, and local transportation for the visitors (Marketing4restaurants, 2012). The bundling of various services along with accommodation would be helpful for the hotel to add value for its customers. It will boost up the sales revenues of the hotel. Apart from these alternatives, further steps could also be taken by the management through pricing policy to improve the yield. Based on the size of booking amount, the customers should be give discount on the price. The price discount policy should fair and competitive. It will help the hotel to enhance revenues in a quick time. In addition to this there are few other examples that could be applied in yield management in a hotel. For example, the hotel may consider getting into an alliance with the airlines or agents to catch the customers more easily (Marketing4restaurants, 2012). Conclusion The discussion in this report resolves around the subject matter of revenue or yield management in the context of hospitality industry. From the discussion carried in this report, it can be articulated that the yield management is crucial for the survival of the firms operating in the hospitality industry. The area of yield management is strategic and tactical that requires formulation of different strategies keeping the competitors in mind. The analysis of competitors thus becomes necessary before framing the strategies for yield management. Further, the discussion of the report extends to descriptions and application of the yield management strategies. References Bourne, L. 2015. A DayS Wait Ernest Hemingway Essay Example For Students
A DayS Wait Ernest Hemingway Essay ERNEST HEMINGWAYErnest Hemmingway is a masculine writer of immense emotion. He writes off of his life experiences and his feelings towards different subjects. Ernest Hemingways themes are virile on the surface, but when analyzed, one will find them to be romantic and sentimental. As one will find through the reading of Hemingways works he is a very masculine writer. Says one critic: Hemingway fans have long made reference to the Hemingway Heros, or the macho men which seem to dominate most of the authors semi-autobiographical works(essortment1). Brian Dennis writes: Hemingways themes show part of his life. He was a man who delights in fishing, in hunting, in horseplay, and was a man filled with what used to be called animal spirits(dennis02). Michael Reynolds states: From 1921 to 1938 it has been the same story, love and pity and pride and loneliness concealed in a brief reportage of cruel facts(reynolds369). Another expert explained that: The glorification of the dangerous life of hunting and fishing is keeping Hemingway from deserving people, from writing about the life of his times(jackson72). As for Hemingway himself he calls himself a mans man. Michael Reynolds stated that: The method is to effete for Mr. Hemingway, who cannot develop themes for his work without first sailing for Cape Town of chartering a fishing smack or hiring a guide to the caribou country. Hemingway stated: Writers should work alone. They should see each other only when their work is done, and not too often then. Otherwise they become like writers in New York. All angleworms in a bottle, trying to derive knowledge and nourishment from their own contact and from the bottle(reynolds371). In the face of so much advise, Hemingway continued to write only about what he knows, only as he sees it, only when he wants to, that is a quality that Hemingway posses that few other writers have(waldhorn03). The source of his material and spring to his imagination was his own life. Issues of intellect, history, myth, and society were beside the point. It is what his eyes say and heart felt that he cured into fiction(fenton91). Says Charles Fenton about Hemingway. To examine the extent of the masculinity of Hemingways themes, one must first get to know what some critics say about the themes of some of his stories. Speaking of The Sun Also Rises editors of a website dedicated to this book explained: No amount of analysis can convey the quality of The Sun Also Rises. It is truly a gripping story, told in a lean hard athletic narrative. Mr. Hemingway shows uncanny skill at implementing his own masculine beliefs and values into a theme of immense emotion(essortment2). Seeing through the masculinity in the story Justin Day writes: Mr. Hemingway has such a hold on his values that he makes an absorbing, beautifully and tenderly absurd, heartbreaking narrative of it, when on the surface, it seems as if it is going to be one of his infamous Man Stories(day3). Speaking of A Farewell to Arms which is a highly reviewed Hemingway story, Arthur Waldhorn writes that: The chief result is of enamel luster imparted to the story as a whole, not precisely and iri descence, but a white light, rather, that pales and flashes, but never warms. Which is Hemingways way of thinking, it is apparent that he has soft spots in his work and in his thoughts, but he refuses to let them show(Waldhorn2). Reviewing the same story Jeff Marx states that a Victorian telling the story of Henry and Catherine would have waxed sentimental; he would have sought the tears of his reader. And he would surely himself shed tears as he wrote(jackson73). Many believe that Hemingway wrote about fictional characters that had the life that Ernest Hemingway himself tried to lead. Brian Dennis speaking of the story To Have and Have Not states: Henry was a big bruiser of a man, hard as they come, happily married by reason of a strong physical attachment, and was the father of two girls(dennis14). .u019a6e18a7df5e73c7eeb04da21179a0 , .u019a6e18a7df5e73c7eeb04da21179a0 .postImageUrl , .u019a6e18a7df5e73c7eeb04da21179a0 .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .u019a6e18a7df5e73c7eeb04da21179a0 , .u019a6e18a7df5e73c7eeb04da21179a0:hover , .u019a6e18a7df5e73c7eeb04da21179a0:visited , .u019a6e18a7df5e73c7eeb04da21179a0:active { border:0!important; } .u019a6e18a7df5e73c7eeb04da21179a0 .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .u019a6e18a7df5e73c7eeb04da21179a0 { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .u019a6e18a7df5e73c7eeb04da21179a0:active , .u019a6e18a7df5e73c7eeb04da21179a0:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .u019a6e18a7df5e73c7eeb04da21179a0 .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .u019a6e18a7df5e73c7eeb04da21179a0 .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .u019a6e18a7df5e73c7eeb04da21179a0 .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .u019a6e18a7df5e73c7eeb04da21179a0 .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .u019a6e18a7df5e73c7eeb04da21179a0:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .u019a6e18a7df5e73c7eeb04da21179a0 .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .u019a6e18a7df5e73c7eeb04da21179a0 .u019a6e18a7df5e73c7eeb04da21179a0-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .u019a6e18a7df5e73c7eeb04da21179a0:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Coalition Chemistry EssayAs stated before many critics believe that Hemingways themes are sentimental and somewhat romantic. For example Michael Reynolds writes: Hemingway has tremendous personality. It is not the usual kind of personality in literature, not D. H. Lawrences or Chekhovs, or Max Beerbohms; it isnt inflammatory or pervasive or repellant; indeed it is a personality in retreat, almost in hiding; an implied personality just as Hemingways sense of values is an implied sense of values(reynolds373). Hemingway seems to be a romantic man with a masculine way of thinking. One feels that he learns about people by listening to them, not by talking to them. In the end he probably learns more that way(jackson73). But he remains in a subtle sense, a stranger among his themes and characters(fenton76). Alfred Aronowitz does not think that it is very difficult to find that Hemingways themes are romantic. He states Everybody, more or less, knows that at the bottom Hemingway is a romantic and a sentimentalist, it is not a new discovery yet it remains an interesting one to discuss (aronowitz41). It has given him the physical sensations of direct action, rude contact, swift pace. It has given him something to be downright, and if necessary, harsh about without exposing himself as inhumane; it has given him somebody elses code to interpret so that he need not formulate (which is a much harder job) a code of his own; it has given him, perhaps, the right to despise. Which in turn, provides us with a false understanding of Mr. Hemingway (aronowitz41). Alfred Aronowitz continued on to say. Hemingways themes explain his lifestyle, or the lifestyle that he made ap parent to the public eye. No writer can go on and on writing about the same things when they are merely things that he observed, overheard, or impaled with his intelligence quite like Hemingway(jackson74). Says Jeff Marx. It is said that the themes that Ernest Hemingway had in his stories were things that just popped in his mind through a day of being alone or a day of hunting (fenton82). One can then come to the conclusion that Hemingway was a dreamer and not too much in tune with the reality that was his life, as such the themes in his stories proved this (fenton83). Alfred Aronowitz believed that Ernest Hemingways way of thinking provided themes for Hemingways stories. Hemingway seemed to always have a contrasting theme in his stories. When Hemingway was at a down time in life, he would write about a hero, also when Hemingway was seemingly on cloud nine, he would write about murder(Aronowitz43). After over 50 years of analysis, there are still thousands of opinions and hypothesis on why Hemingway wrote about what he did. But there are a few things that are agreed upon. Ernest Hemmingway was came off as a mans man (reynolds371). It is a fact that most of his stories consisted of predominantly masculine themes. Whether it is a world war hero or an everyday macho man, Hemmingway seems to have always been a writer that reached out to a male audience (fenton89). Through research one will also find Hemingways themes to be somewhat romantic and sentimental (aronowitz41). All of these facts concerning Hemingway go for not if one does not get the writer to know for oneself. He is truly a brilliant and thoughtful writer (fenton88). BibliographyAronowitz, Alfred G.
